Motiongate Overview
Motiongate Dubai is a must-visit for movie enthusiasts and thrill-seekers alike. The park features four themed zones, each inspired by popular Hollywood movies. From battling ghosts with Ghostbusters to flying with Toothless the dragon, there’s something for everyone.
For detailed information about the theme park, read our post Motiongate: The Ultimate Guide to Dubai’s Theme Park and Its Rides.
What is the Q-Fast Pass?
The Q-Fast pass is an add-on service that allows you to skip regular lines and enjoy faster access to rides. The pass is especially convenient for families with kids who may not have the patience for extended queues.
It is very similar to Disney‘s Genie+ aka Fast Pass or Universal‘s Express Pass with one large difference we describe later in the post.
The cost of Q-Fast pass ranges from 150 AED (~$40) to 300 AED (~$80) depending on the day.
What Are the Wait Times Like at Motiongate?
Our first trip to Motiongate happened in July, when Dubai’s blazing heat made it a quieter time. With temperatures soaring past 100 degrees, the park was practically empty, and we breezed through rides without even considering a fast pass.
Fast forward to February, a bustling time in the UAE. As we eagerly headed to Dragon Gliders, a favorite ride, we were shocked to see a 30-minute wait. Assuming this was the norm, and with limited time on our hands (a last-minute decision to swing by the park en route from Dubai to Abu Dhabi), I hurriedly purchased the Q-Fast pass.
This was before I saw the screen with the wait times…
Q-Fast is Not Like Fast Pass
Another reason I wouldn’t suggest going for the Q-Fast pass is because it doesn’t quite operate like Genie + / Fast Pass at Disney parks.
Unlike Disney‘s system, where there’s a ratio of ten Fast Pass guests to every regular guest (don’t quote me on this though!) admitted to a ride, Motiongate (and Universal Studios Singapore) employ a different approach. Here, in most cases, only one Q-Fast pass party is admitted per ride load. This means that while the pass might grant you closer access to the front of the line, the time saved isn’t as substantial as you might expect.
Final Thoughts
So, here’s the bottom line: Is a Q-Fast Pass worth it at Motiongate Dubai? In my opinion, probably not. The park is designed to accommodate large crowds efficiently, meaning you’re unlikely to spend hours waiting in line for your favorite rides. Instead, you can save your money for souvenirs and snacks.
Of course, everyone’s preferences and priorities are different. If you’re visiting during a particularly busy time or simply can’t stand the thought of waiting in line, then a Q-Fast Pass might be worth considering. But for the majority of families, myself included, I’d recommend skipping the fast pass and embracing the laid-back pace of Motiongate Dubai.
